Katie's A Pass Plus Cymru Winner

Katie Sands of Merthyr Tydfil is the latest recipient of the Pass Plus Cymru quarterly prize, her name was drawn form hundreds of candidates who had returned feedback forms following participation in the scheme

Overjoyed with her £250 cheque which was just in time for a pending holiday trip, Katie said she felt the course had really improved her driving skills and she had enjoyed the whole process.

Gethin Drives Off With Prize!

A young Pembroke motorist is the latest winner of the Pass Plus Cymru quarterly prize. Eighteen year old Gethin Llewelyn from Hodgeston won £250 after his name was drawn from a list of young drivers who had completed the advanced skills course.
Pass Plus Cymru is aimed at novice drivers between 17 and 25, who have passed their driving test.
Organised by local authorities it offers them advanced driving skills beyond the Basic Pass Plus Scheme.
Gethin, who is a pupil at Pembroke School and works part time at Manor House Wildlife Park said: “Pass Plus Cymru gave me valuable extra experience and positive driving skills that I would otherwise have taken longer to acquire and to get the training for just £20 was even better!.”
He was presented with his prize cheque at County Hall by Councillor Jamie Adams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Planning.
“Pass Plus Cymru is a great initiative,” he said. “By educating young and newly qualified drivers it aims to influence them to become better and more responsible drivers thereby making the roads safer in Pembrokeshire and Wales.”
David Williams, Chief Executive of vehicle breakdown cover firm, GEM Motoring Assist said it was delighted to donate the prizes for the safer driving initiative.
“GEM Motoring Assist believes that it is important to learn how to identify and manage risk in today’s traffic conditions early in one’s driving career. To this end Pass Plus Cymru ticks all the right boxes.”
It is estimated that nearly 10,000 novice drivers have taken the Pass Plus Cymru course since 2006.
It costs young people just £20 for the whole course thanks to a special road safety grant from the Welsh Assembly Government.
Morys Wins With Pass Plus Cymru and GEM Motoring Assist

A Gwynedd teenager is celebrating a bonus award after taking part in a campaign to help young drivers stay safe while behind the wheel of a car. The Pass Plus Cymru scheme is a driver improvement course targeted at young drivers aimed at improving their general motoring skills and driving down the chances of being involved in an accident.
The scheme, which is supported by the Gwynedd Road Safety Partnership, awards a £250 cash prize to one participant every three months. The winner this season is Llanrug teenager Morys Williams.
Morys, 18, a student at Coleg Menai, Bangor said: “It was great to have the extra training with a professional after passing my test and to pay only £20 was even better.”
Young people taking part in the scheme will pick up tips and pointers about:
- Heading off on the motorway
- Driving techniques and hazard awareness
- Getting around at night
- Coping with busy towns and cities
- Driving on rural country roads
Colin Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Road Safety Manager, a member of the Gwynedd Road Safety Partnership, said:
“The Pass Plus Cymru scheme is a great way for young people to improve their driving skills and be less likely to injure themselves, their passengers or other road users in a road accident.
“Sadly, drivers in this age group are the most likely to involved in accidents and anything we can do to prevent this is good news indeed.
“Everyone who takes part in the scheme is entered into a draw and one lucky winner will win £250. Well done to Morys Williams for winning this draw.”

Safer Driving Pays Off!

New driver Rebeca James from Aberbargoed is celebrating after winning a cash prize as part of the Pass Plus Cymru quarterly draw. Rebeca, aged 18, signed up to take part in the Pass Plus Cymru scheme which provides additional practical training for new drivers. Her name was drawn from a list of all the participants who returned their evaluation form on completion of the course.
Rebeca’s £250 prize was donated by GEM Motoring Assist. Their Chief Executive Officer, David Williams said ‘We are delighted to donate the prizes for this safer driving initiative. GEM Motoring Assist believes that early in one’s driving career it is important to learn how to identify and manage risk in today’s traffic conditions. To this end Pass Plus Cymru ticks all the right boxes.”
On receiving her prize Rebeca, who is a student at the University of Wales, Pontypridd, said, “It was great to get the extra training with a professional after I passed my test - and to get the training for just £20 was even better!”
Rebeca’s prize was presented by Councillor Rob Gough, CCBC cabinet member for transportation and planning.
Over the last twelve months 108 young drivers from Caerphilly have taken advantage of a Pass Plus Cymru Course. 385 young drivers from across the wider region have opted to become better drivers, and a majority have benefitted from lower insurance premiums because they took the time to take extra training.
Thomas Gains £250 Thanks To Gem Motoring Assist

17-year-old Thomas Bailey, Ystrad Meurig, Ceredigion is the latest recipient of the Pass Plus Cymru quarterly prize. Thomas’ name was drawn from a list of all participants who returned their evaluation form on completion of the course. His Pass Plus Cymru ADI was Steven Griffiths of Aberystwyth Driving School.
On receiving his prize Thomas, who is a student at Coleg Powys, Newtown, said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the extra training that Pass Plus Cymru gave me and picked up a lot of useful tips and advice as a new driver. I recommend it for all those who have just passed their test”
Catrin Drives Away With The Prize

17-year-old Catrin Selway of Old Colwyn, is the latest recipient of the Pass Plus Cymru £250 quarterly prize.
Catrin’s name was drawn from a list of all participants who returned their evaluation form on completion of the course. Her Pass Plus Cymru ADI was Dean James of Progress Driving School.
The prize was donated by GEM Motoring Assist. Their Chief Executive Officer, David Williams said ‘We are delighted to donate the prizes for this safer driving initiative, which gives novice drivers additional training. I feel sure that Pass Plus Cymru will help to contribute to making Welsh drivers of tomorrow more aware, considerate and safer.

Geraint's A Winner With Pass Plus Cymru

19-year-old Geraint Phillips a Bristol University medical student from Birchgrove, Swansea is the winner of the Pass Plus Cymru quarterly prize. Geraint’s name was drawn from a list of all participants who returned their evaluation form on completion of the course. The course which has been running from Morriston Fire Station since September 2006 aims to promote road safety to newly qualified young drivers aged between seventeen and twenty-five by enhancing their knowledge, skills, attitude and understanding through the provision of theoretical and practical driving instruction.
Station Manager David Phillips said "The Fire and Rescue Service attend many incidents where people are seriously injured or killed as a result of a road traffic collision. We believe that by educating young and newly qualified drivers we can hopefully influence them to become better and more responsible drivers and over the longer term we will see a substantial reduction in the number and severity of such incidents. Pass Plus Cymru is one of a number of very successful road safety schemes we run in partnership with the Police and Road Safety Teams"
The cost of the whole course is £20, a massive discount from the normal cost of between £120 and £150. This is made possible by a road safety grant from the Welsh Assembly Government via the City and County of Swansea’s Road Safety Team.

Rob's A Pass Plus Cymru Prize Winner

Rob Hughes who lives near Llandrindod Wells is the first Powys recipient of the Pass Plus Cymru quarterly prize. Rob’s name was drawn from a list of all participants, throughout Wales, who returned their evaluation form on completion of the Young Driver’s Course. Rob won £250, which has been donated by GEM Motoring Assist.
On receiving his prize, Rob said: “I hadn’t done any motorway driving before and it gave me confidence with motorway and city driving. I found the whole experience very beneficial.”
Gareth Evans, Drive On Instructor and Pass Plus Cymru Presenter said: “I think the Pass Plus Cymru scheme is a worthwhile course to do as it gives the new driver a lot of on-road experience and helpful advice. Young drivers also have the possible benefit of an insurance discount for the small sum of £20.”
The course consists of a theory session and practical session, which are carried out by Approved Driving Instructors. Once completed, young drivers may be entitled to reduced motor insurance costs. The scheme is aimed at 17 to 25 year olds who hold a full driving licence.

Jessica’s name was drawn from a list of all participants who returned their evaluation form on completion of the course. Her Pass Plus Cymru ADI was Mr Ron Ingall of Ron Ingall School of Motoring which is based in Whitchurch.

Pass Plus Cymru has been developed for novice drivers aged between 17 and 25 to offer more than the basic Pass Plus scheme. Wrexham Council is able to offer this post driver training course thanks to funding from the Welsh Assembly Government. The cost of the whole course is only £20, a massive discount from the normal cost of between £120 and £150. Training courses are being run in Wrexham County Borough throughout the year.

Joe’s name was drawn from a list of all participants who returned their evaluation form on completion of the course. His Pass Plus Cymru ADI was Simon Hughes of SMS, Aberdare.
